The tenth round of the 2024 Tasmanian State League season was an action-packed weekend of football around the isle, with the weekend’s fixture comprised of matches between Clarence and Launceston, Lauderdale and Glenorchy, and North Hobart and North Launceston.

At Blundstone Arena, Clarence made a red-hot start on their home turf against the Blues, kicking 8.1 to 0.1. The Roos maintained their hefty lead throughout the following quarter despite some Launceston resistance. The second half was a seesawing affair, and regardless of the Blues’ defiance, Clarence were ultimately too strong. In the end, it was a considerable 16.9 (105) to 8.4 (52) victory for the Roos.

Bryce Alomes, Josh Green, and Noah Holmes snared three goals apiece for Clarence, with Holmes also amassing 26 contested possessions and 31 disposals for the afternoon. Furthermore, Keegan Ryan (two goals, seven clearances, 26 disposals) and Tyson Hanslow (five marks, eight tackles, 26 disposals) were also notable contributors in red and white.

Launceston’s Josiah Burling (11 marks, 15 rebound inside-50s, 37 disposals), Lucas Wootton (two goals, nine marks, 24 disposals) and Samuel Foley (two goals, 13 contested possessions, 22 disposals) were standouts in a losing outfit.

Further along the Eastern Shore, Lauderdale and Glenorchy faced off at Lauderdale Oval. The Southern Bombers made a strong start, kicking an unopposed 5.4 in the first term. Despite some inaccuracy in the second quarter, Lauderdale extended their lead to 45 points at the main break. The home side continued their dominance over the Pies throughout the second half and ran out 16.15 (111) to 6.7 (43) winners over Glenorchy.

Craig Blaschke and Jordan Lane registered three majors each for Lauderdale, and Nat Franklin (one goal, 18 contested possessions, 39 disposals), Rhys Sutton (one goal, 15 contested possessions, 25 disposals) and Haydn Smith (12 contested possessions, 57 hit-outs, 20 disposals) were prolific for the Bombers.

Meanwhile, Glenorchy’s Josh Arnold (six marks, nine rebound inside-50s, 22 disposals), Callum Thompson (six tackles, eight marks, 19 disposals), and Harrison Gunther (seven marks, ten one-percenters, 14 disposals) held their ground in a tough defeat.

And lastly, North Hobart took on the first-placed North Launceston at North Hobart Oval. The visitors made a solid start against Demons, kicking 4.2 to 2.5 in the opening quarter. North Hobart hit back in the following term, and after a four-goal to two quarter of their own, they held a lead of two points at half-time. However, the Northern Bombers were resurgent after the main interval, kicking 6.2 to one goal in the third term to lead by five goals with a quarter to play. Ultimately, North Launceston were able to outlast a brave Demons outfit, winning 16.10 (106) to 11.12 (78) and maintaining their unbeaten record in 2024.

Brandon Leary and Harvey Griffiths notched four goals apiece for North Launceston, and Michael Stingel (seven clearances, 22 contested possessions, 33 disposals), Brad Cox-Goodyer (one goal, nine clearances, 23 disposals), and Alex Lee (five one-pecenters, 56 hit-outs, 11 disposals) were excellent for the ladder-leaders.

For the Dees, Thomas Liefhebber (seven clearances, 10 tackles, 30 disposals), Tyler McGinniss (one goal, 14 contested possessions, 29 disposals) and Archie Devine (one goal, seven marks, 22 disposals) led the way for North Hobart in the face of superb opposition.

This weekend, Clarence take on the returning Kingborough Tigers at Blundstone Arena, Lauderdale and Launceston will clash at Lauderdale Oval, and Glenorchy and North Launceston will skirmish at KGV Oval.
