Bombers set for big stage battle

This Sunday’s round nine TSL clash between North Launceston and Lauderdale will be of extra significance, with the two sides meeting in an AFL Curtain Raiser at UTAS Stadium.
TSL action will get underway at 11am, before the anticipated Sir Doug Nicholls Round match between Hawthorn and Brisbane at 3:20pm.
Sir Doug Nicholls Round is a highlight of the AFL Premiership Season, actively celebrating and recognising Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and their contribution to Australian Football.
The Battle of the Bombers is set to have significant ramifications on the TSL season, too, with the third-placed Northern Bombers looking to continue some red-hot recent form, and the fifth-placed visitors desperate to get back on the winner’s list and stay in touch with the top four.
AFL Tasmania Regional Manager – South & TSL Andy Bennett says, “This Sunday’s curtain raiser is a fantastic opportunity for our competition to be part of an AFL game day.
“I would like to thank the Hawthorn Football Club, who have shown great generosity, flexibility and goodwill to make this game a reality. The Hawks have done a mountain of work to offer this opportunity, and it is greatly appreciated.
“Both North Launceston and Lauderdale have been terrific in their cooperation and collaboration, and I know the opportunity to play ahead of an AFL game in Sir Doug Nicholls Round is something all players, coaches, officials and umpires will relish.”
Hawthorn FC Head of Tasmanian Operations David Cox says, “The Hawthorn Football Club is proud to provide this opportunity for young up and coming Tasmanian talent.
“Sir Doug Nicholls Round is such an important part of the AFL season and we are delighted to have the TSL competition and the North Launceston and Lauderdale represented as part of what promises to be a fantastic day.”
