Key changes ahead of Phil Edwards Cup clash
Three Good Friday crackers await footy fans this week, with the Northern derby, Eastern Shore derby and a clash between rivals Kingborough and North Hobart.
Launceston and North Launceston will play for the Phil Edwards Cup at Windsor Park, named in memory of the late Examiner sports journalist, with the aggregate score from the Under 18’s, Development League and the TSL Senior matches determining the winner.
Launceston welcome premiership guns Michael Musicka and Jacob Boyd back for this round four clash, with Kye Chilcott also coming into the side. Talls Joe Groenewegen and Tiernan McCormack are both out, as well as Sam Cowley.
The Northern Bombers will field a very different side to the one that lost to Clarence last weekend, with coach Brad Cox-Goodyer and 2021 Matthew Richardson Medalist Michael Stingel both set to miss through injury to headline six changes. Experienced campaigners Jack Avent and Nathan Pearce lead the inclusions.
Lauderdale return from the bye to take on neighbours Clarence at Skybus Oval in another Good Friday clash. Michael Blackburn, the former Clarence Roo and Lindisfarne Blue, will make his debut in the red and black, with Sam Tilley also coming into the side that lost to North Launceston in round two. Mitch Rainbird will return for Clarence, providing Peter Ryan’s side with a boost following last week’s impressive win on the road against the Northern Bombers.
North Hobart will look even stronger on paper this weekend following last week’s demolition of the Magpies, welcoming Jack Sandric and interestingly coach Clinton French into the side to take on the Tigers on Good Friday at the Twin Ovals.
