SIGGINS SNATCHES LYNCH

Sam Siggins has sensationally stormed home with maximum votes in his last two games to claim the 2020 Alastair Lynch Medal, for Best & Fairest in the Bupa Tasmanian State League (TSL).

Siggins had not polled a vote until Round 7 of the 2020 TSL season and then polled 14 votes across seven rounds, including four best on grounds. At the end of Round 11, Siggins was three votes back (on eight votes) from leaders Jobi Harper and Kieran Lovell on 11 votes.

The Lauderdale utility stepped up to ruck when Haydn Smith went down injured in Round 12 against Glenorchy and went on to be named best on ground, drawing level with the star pair with just one round remaining.

The former Adelaide Crow then starred in the Bombers final game against Kingborough with 27 disposals, 13 clearances and 20 hit outs, to clinch the TSL’s highest honour.

Siggins’ polling form shouldn’t come as a shock after finishing second in the Lynch medal in 2017.

Siggins averaged 22 disposals in season 2020, accumulating the fifth most disposals in the competition. He is a balanced player, rating high in a number of key categories. He was second for hand balls, third for contested disposals, fifth for clearances, 10th for hit outs, third for hard ball gets and equal second for score involvements.
