Week 2 Finals announced – Bupa TSL, Wrest Point TSLW, Development League

Week one of the Bupa TSL, Wrest Point TSLW and Development League finals series have been run and won, setting up a tantalising second weekend of finals action. 

Launceston, fresh from a strong 55-point Elimination Final win over the Tigers at Windsor Park, will travel to KGV to take on Glenorchy at 2:30pm on Saturday afternoon.

The Magpies fell agonisingly short of Lauderdale in Saturday’s Qualifying Final, going down by just six points in a pulsating finish.

The Magpies will look to make the most of their double-chance benefits as a top-three side after the home and away season, with the loser of this clash between the Magpies and Blues eliminated from the finals series. The winner will play the loser of the 2nd Semi Final.

Glenorchy and Launceston have met three times this season, with the ‘Pies recording a win at Windsor Park in round one and the Blues securing two comprehensive victories at KGV in rounds nine and 15.

The second Bupa TSL Semi Final will be hosted at Windsor Park on Sunday afternoon, with North Launceston taking on Lauderdale from 2:00pm.

The Southern Bombers secured a stirring win over the Magpies in their Qualifying Final bout, snapping a three-game losing streak, while North Launceston enjoyed the first week of finals from the sidelines after finishing the season as minor premiers.

The reigning premiers recorded a 45-point win over their southern counterparts in round 19 at Skybus Oval, however Lauderdale took the points from both of their previous 2019 meetings – by 16 points in round five at Skybus Oval and 37 points at UTAS Stadium in round 13.

The winner of this clash will book a direct ticket to the 2019 Bupa TSL Grand Final, while the loser will play the winner of the 1st Semi Final.

This clash will follow a huge Wrest Point TSLW Semi Final between the undefeated Launceston Blues and second-placed Glenorchy at midday. The winner of this clash will go straight to the Grand Final, while the loser will face Clarence next week.

Glenorchy and Launceston’s Bupa TSL 1st Semi Final on Saturday will take place after Development League Semi Finals between Glenorchy and Lauderdale at 9:30am and Tigers FC and North Launceston at midday.

There were a number of key factors in the scheduling of these finals:

• Highest ranked Senior team to host game/s
• TSL Management aim to keep clubs within region and aim wherever possible not to split club resources/volunteers
• Windsor Park to host finals for Northern clubs in weeks 1 – 3 due to University of Tasmania Stadium’s ground renovations and resulting unavailability
• Windsor Park hosting NTFA Division 1 Grand Final on Saturday
