Week 1 Finals announced – Bupa TSL, Wrest Point TSLW, Development League

With the 2019 home and away season done and dusted, attention now swiftly turns to highly anticipated finals series for the Bupa Tasmanian State League, Wrest Point TSLW and TSL Development League competitions. 

Week One of the finals series will see the Tigers play their first Bupa TSL final since joining the competition in 2014 when Trent Baumeler’s side meet the Blues at Windsor Park.

This do-or-die Elimination Final showdown will be a standalone fixture in the state’s north at 1:00pm on Saturday 31 August and will pit the two sides against each other for the second time in as many weeks.

Lauderdale will host Glenorchy at 2:00pm on Saturday 31 August at Blundstone Arena in a Qualifying Final blockbuster.

The Southern Bombers started the season on fire to sit on top of the ladder for much of the year before late-round losses saw the 2017 and 2018 Grand Finalists finish in second place.

Glenorchy has spent most of the season in third spot and will be eager to record their third win from four outings against their southern rival this season – and avenge for a Preliminary Final loss to Lauderdale in 2018.

Blundstone Arena will also play host to a huge Wrest Point TSLW Semi Final between 2018 Grand Finalists Clarence and competition newcomers North Launceston at 12:00pm.

The ‘Roos have had an up and down season but still look to be one of the teams to beat with a plethora of standout talent. The Northern Bombers, meanwhile, have surprised many with a highly competitive season that included a win over the ‘Roos back in round nine.

This final will commence after a TSL Development League Elimination Final between Eastern Shore rivals Clarence and Lauderdale at Blundstone Arena, with North Launceston and Glenorchy to also meet in a Development League Qualifying Final at the venue at 5:00pm.

There were a number of key factors in the scheduling of these finals:

• Highest ranked Senior team to host game/s
• TSL Management aim to keep clubs within region and aim wherever possible not to split club resources/volunteers
• Windsor Park to host finals for Northern clubs in weeks 1 – 3 due to University of Tasmania Stadium’s ground renovations and resulting unavailability
• Lauderdale FC will play their home finals at Blundstone Arena, Bellerive
