Jay and Jobi to lead the Blues

The Blues will have a fresh look in 2019, with the club announcing its on-field leadership structure this week.

Following the appointment of 2018 Hudson Medal winner Mitch Thorp as senior coach back in November, the Blues have confirmed that experienced duo Jay Blackberry and Jobi Harper will skipper the club in 2019.

Launceston made the announcement on the eve of the 2019 Bupa TSL Media Launch, with Blackberry and Harper to be assisted by key defender Simon Vandervelde and ruckman Hamish Leedham.

This announcement caps off a big off-season at Windsor Park, with Sam Lonergan’s departure for SANFL club Woodville West-Torrens and Mitch Thorp’s appointment followed by the return of former premiership player Tim Bristow as a playing assistant coach and installation of former captain Chris Savage as an assistant coach.

Thorp is looking forward to what the new season has to offer.

“We are trying to create our own brand,” Thorp said.

“Our list has changed – we will have some new faces – we have two new captains and a new coach, so we are looking forward to the season starting.”
