Bupa TSL Round 20 Forward of the Week

The penultimate round of the Bupa Tasmanian State League season has been run and won, with some significant results on the eve of finals.

We want to know who you thought were the standout performers from the weekend’s round of action!

We finish by looking at the forwards, with two seasoned campaigners playing key roles in important victories.

Clinton French (Glenorchy)

Few would’ve expected Glenorchy premiership star Clinton French’s name to appear in this section this week, but the 2016 Darrel Baldock medalist made the most of being a late inclusion in round 20 to steer the Magpies to an important win over the ‘Roos.

An inclusion for the injured Mitch Rainbird, French filled the small forward role expertly, kicking three majors in an electric display.

Although it took him a while to get himself into the contest, French made his presence felt with three important goals to help keep the home side at bay.

Jacob Gillbee (Lauderdale)

The former Gold Coast Sun has threatened to break a game open for much of the season, but finally did so on Saturday afternoon with a big bag of seven goals.

Gillbee has consistently kicked one or two goals a game since rejoining his junior club mid-season, but took Saturday’s game by the scruff of the neck with a mixture of clinical finishes and opportunistic efforts.

With enviable football nous and the ability to play as a marking tall and competing small, Gillbee is a nighmare for opposition defenders and proved as much on Saturday.

A player to keep a close eye on in finals.
