Bupa TSL Round 20 Back of the Week

The penultimate round of the Bupa Tasmanian State League season has been run and won, with some significant results on the eve of finals.

We want to know who you thought were the standout performers from the weekend’s round of action!

We start with the defenders, where a consistent Magpie and a Tigers’ star lead from the front.

Josh Grant (Glenorchy)

Part of one of the competition’s best defensive units, Josh Grant was as good as ever in the Magpies’ impressive win over the ‘Roos.

Tasked with an array of roles throughout the day, including playing on the ever-dangerous Jake Cox at times, Grant read the play beautifully to continually repel the home side.

A strong mark overhead and a wonderful reader of the play, Grant’s ability to make ground on an opponent and either spoil or take an intercept mark is almost second to none.

Likely to play a role on Mitch Thorp next weekend, Grant looks primed for a big finish to the season.

Marcus Davies (Tigers FC)

Although the result didn’t go the way of the Tigers, stalwart Marcus Davies was at his damaging best.

Davies provided dash and bounce out of the back half, setting the Tigers up as they turned defence into offence.

A key weapon in the Tigers’ strong opening half, Davies’ performance helped the Tigers get the early jump, and while the Blues stormed late in the second term and in the second half, Davies remained a resilient figure to keep the Tigers fighting until the final siren.

A highly influential figure on and off the field for the Tigers, Davies again underlined his assets and importance after an injury-interrupted season.
