TSL Tribunal Results – Round 17

Bupa Tasmanian State League

Round 17

1. Adam Roberts (Glenorchy) was referred for rough conduct against Jay Foon (North Launceston)

Player Roberts was referred for a dangerous tackle on Player Foon. The Match Review Panel determined the tackle to be careless, with severe impact and high contact.

Based on the rating of the MRP, this matter was referred directly to the Independent Tribunal and was heard at 6:00pm on Tuesday 24th July 2018.

Based on the evidence given by all parties – the officiating umpires, player Foon and player Roberts – all parties’ evidence indicated that it was a reasonable tackle in the circumstances which resulted in an unfortunate outcome.

Player Foon, in his evidence, stated that “there was not much in it, it was just footy. We were both going at the ball at speed and I got tackled – there wasn’t much in it, I was unlucky. We fell to the ground together and it happened very quickly, sh*t happens in footy.”

Both umpires provided evidence that they both had clear, unobstructed views of the incident, and that it was a reasonable tackle given that it wasn’t seen as a lifting or driving action and the arms were not pinned.

The evidence from the umpires also noted that no North Launceston players remonstrated with Player Roberts after the incident.

Player Roberts, via his advocate, successfully argued that the variance in the two players’ weight (63kg Roberts and 85kg Foon) contributed to the forward momentum that saw the two players go to ground.

Player Roberts was found NOT GUILTY.
