Round 17 of the Bupa Tasmanian State League season has come and gone, and with the business end of the season fast approaching, we want to know who you considered to be the premier players of the round.
We start this week with the midfield, where stars from the Northern Bombers and ‘Roos took control in the engine room to steer their sides to victory.
Mark Walsh (North Launceston)
It was in the engine room where the Northern Bombers got on top of the Magpies on Saturday afternoon and key cog Mark Walsh was a vital figure in this.
Walsh combined brilliantly with Josh Ponting and Brad Cox-Goodyer to get on top around the stoppages in the second term, helping propel the Bombers to an important win on the road.
The ladder leaders were challenged throughout the day, but through the fight and resilience of Walsh and co., North Launceston dug deep to find the answers and get the four points. Also drifted forward to kick crafty goals in both the second and final terms.
Brady Jones (Clarence)
Clarence skipper Brady Jones was at the forefront for the ‘Ropos on Saturday afternoon, using his experience and leadership to steer the hosts home against a plucky North Hobart outfit at Blundstone Arena.
The Demons were brave against the ‘Roos, but the grunt work of Jones at the bottom of packs and the class of outside players like Jake Cox proved too much in the end.
Jones’ ability to use the ball well himself, while also funneling the ball out to his teammates on the outside makes him a star of the competition and proved crucial in determining the end result on Saturday afternoon.
