Bupa TSL Round 10 Back of the Week

With round 10 of the Bupa Tasmanian State League season done and dusted, we want to know who you considered to be the premier defenders, midfielders and forwards of the round.

We will start by casting our eyes on the backmen, with a North Launceston premiership hero and a Lauderdale star the contenders.

IC: Andrew Woodgate

Jay Foon (North Launceston)

One of the competition’s premier defenders, Jay Foon was at his best in the Bombers’ win over Glenorchy, combining with the likes of Sherrin Egger and Arion Richter-Salter to deliver a stringent defensive effort that only conceded five goals for the match, including a goalless opening term and a scoreless final stanza.

After playing further afield earlier in the season Foon has gone back to defence in recent weeks to deliver some of his best performances of the season.

An elite kick, Foon’s capacity to spot and hit up targets is invaluable for this North Launceston outfit that appear to be in irresistible form.

Josh McGuinness (Lauderdale)

IC: Solstice Digital

Another strong performance from the elder McGuinness brother proved influential in the Bombers’ upsetting the fancied Blues.

Drifting forward at times throughout the day, McGuinness was again an integral figure, using the ball well to generate attacking forays.

Arguably the most important player in this Lauderdale side, McGuinness looms as a key figure for the Bombers as they continue to climb the ladder.
