Bupa TSL Round 5 Back of the Week

Three heavyweights of the competition flexed their muscle across round five of the Bupa Tasmanian State League season, with Glenorchy, North Launceston and Launceston reinforcing their reputations as teams to beat.

We want to know who you considered to be the premier defenders, midfielders, ruckmen and forwards of the round.

In this edition we are taking a look at the backmen, with Glenorchy gun Daniel Joseph and Launceston defender Joe Boyce again receiving nominations after also going head to head in round two.

Boyce played another impressive game across half back for the Blues, providing plenty of bounce out of defence as the Blues transitioned from one end of Blundstone Arena to the other.

Boyce was particularly impressive early, taking several crucial marks inside defensive 50 to keep the Roos in check early.

Alongside key defenders Jimmy Aganas and Simon Vandervelde, Boyce is a vital part of this Launceston outfit, as displayed by another solid performance in Saturday’s win over southern powerhouse Clarence.

Another week, another ‘Back of the Week’ nomination for Daniel Joseph.

Joseph has been excellent since returning to Glenorchy at the start of the season, working alongside fellow defensive leader Josh Arnold to restrict opposition forward lines and create attacking forays out of the back half.

With sublime skills and an excellent ability to read the play, Joseph has been a key pillar in Glenorchy’s promising start to the season, delivering another impressive display against the Tigers on ANZAC Day, with the Tigers kept to just eight goals for the match.
