Wrest Point TSLW Round 2 Preview
Round two of the Wrest Point Tasmanian State League Women’s season sees Clarence with the bye, Glenorchy host the Tigers, and Launceston going head to head with Burnie, with these matches set to tell us a little more about where these sides sit early in the season, writes Olivia Clayton.
Sunday 29th April
Glenorchy v. Tigers (KGV) – 12:00pm
Last Time They Met: Glenorchy 11.11 (77) def. Tigers 0.2 (2) – Round 12, 2017 at KGV
Glenorchy and the Tigers are expected to come out fighting after both being defeated in round one.
Glenorchy went down in a replay of last year’s Grand Final in round one, with Launceston proving to be too strong.
Nietta Lynch, Sarah Skinner and Natalie Daniels all enter the match after kicking two goals in round one.
The Tigers had a tough start to the season, going down to Clarence by 148 points last weekend and will be itching to put in a better showing this weekend.
Last time they met Glenorchy saw goals kicked by Natalie Daniels (3), Kate Rattenbury (3) and Nietta Lynch (2), with Elizabeth Loveless, Sandra Eaton and Gemma Terry also kicking one each. Unfortunately, the Tigers remained goalless when they last played Glenorchy, only managing two behinds.
These two sides will be looking to secure their first win of the season, so expect both teams to come out with plenty of intent.

Burnie v. Launceston (Wivenhoe) – 12:00pm
Last Time They Met: Launceston 7.4 (46) def. Burnie 3.4 (22) – Round 13, 2017 at West Park
After finishing fourth in 2017, Burnie will launch its 2018 season against reigning premier Launceston at Wivenhoe after having the bye in round one.
Launceston started this season where they left 2017 off, defeating Glenorchy in the Grand Final rematch last weekend.
These sides last met in round 13, 2017, at West Park. On that occassion Launceston kicked seven goals with Naomi Celebre kicking three and Abbey Green, Ashleigh Bowen, Georgia Hill and Hayley Whyte all kicking one.
Two of these players, however, in Naomi Celebre and Abbey Green, will miss this match.
Jacqui Mercer, Sarah Skinner and Emma Humphries all scored one goal each last time the Dockers faced the Blues.
This game looks to be a fascinating match with a fresh Burnie taking on a strong Launceston at Wivenhoe in a match that should give us an insight into where Burnie sit early in the season.
