Round 7 Preview

Hobart v Burnie
Saturday 19 May 2012, 2.00pm, TCA Ground

FORM: A week off was perfect timing for winless Hobart to regroup and recharge the batteries for what is hoped is a near victory. Burnie has been off its best, but remains undefeated after the first six rounds.

BURNING QUESTION: What effect will the week off have on the Tigers? Can the Dockers get motivated for what should be an easy kill against Hobart?

THE KEY: Powerful centreman Luke Shackleton has been in brilliant form. The one-time Collingwood listed midfielder leads the RACT Player of the Year Award. He uses his strong body to perfection at the stoppages and forms the perfect combination with dominant ruckman Jason Laycock.

WHO WILL WIN AND WHY? First against last, this could get very ugly. The Dockers are big, experienced, talented, skilled and highly motivated as they chase their first TSL flag – the complete opposite for the Tigers. With Laycock and Shackleton in the middle feeding the likes of Andy Lee, Rohan Baldock and Shaun Knott, the Dockers could leave the TCA Ground with a cricket score next to their name.

TIP: Burnie by 92 points.

Glenorchy v North Hobart
Saturday 19 May 2012, 2.00pm, KGV

FORM: Glenorchy almost pulled off...

Round 6 Review

Burnie v Glenorchy
Saturday 12 May 2012, 2.00pm, West Park

Burnie 1.1 4.6 8.8 9.11 (65)
Glenorchy 3.1 6.1 8.3 9.4 (58)

It is the toughest trip in the TSL but Glenorchy nearly pulled off the upset of the season when it ran premiership favourite Burnie all the way to the line at West Park.

The Magpies were given little hope against the unbeaten hot favourites but no one told Glenorchy.

The visitors led at the first two changes and pushed the Dockers all the way, with Burnie gaining the ascendency in the third term with four goals to two.

Both sides were only able to kick one goal each in the final quarter arm wrestle, but that was enough for Burnie to keep its unbeaten record intact for 2012.

Powerful centreman Luke Shackleton continued his outstanding season by being the Dockers best while talented young ruckman Ben Brown was the best in the black and white.

However, despite the Magpies improvement over the past month, they still sit a game outside the top five with just two wins...
