Taylor Whitford – RACT Player of the Year
In one of the closest years to date, North Launceston Captain – Taylor Whitford, has claimed the 2015 RACT Insurance Player of the Year award.
The gutsy midfielder polled 21 votes, narrowly edging out team mate and Bombers vice-Captain Ethan Petterwood on 17 votes and Glenorchy midfielder Jaye Bowden, also on 17 votes.
At 23 years of age, Whitford stormed home with eight votes in the last four rounds, including a best-on-ground performance in the final round against Devonport to claim the 2015 RACT Insurance Player of the Year award.
RACT Insurance CEO Trent Sayers said Whitford has cemented himself as one of the premier midfielders in the Tasmanian State League competition and his selection in the Tasmanian representative side for the third year in a row was a testament to that.
“Taylor has had an outstanding year and on behalf of RACT Insurance, I would like to congratulate him on a fantastic 2015 season,” said Mr Sayers.
“Taylor is one of the brightest young stars of the Tasmanian State league and I’m sure we will see his name mentioned in the votes for years to come.
“As a Tasmanian company and a member of the Tasmanian community, RACT Insurance is proud to support the TSL and the participating football clubs, who are such an integral part of communities across our state.”
Tasmanian State League General Manager Shaun Young said through his performances in the home and away season, Whitford thoroughly deserved to be named the RACT Insurance Player of the Year.
“I would also like to thank RACT Insurance, in particularly CEO Trent Sayers, for their continued support of the Tasmanian State League and we look forward to this partnership growing into the future to further recognise the performance of the players in the competition,” Mr Young said.
“This year’s new initiative of having the votes for each round on Southern Cross news and in the major newspapers each Tuesday has assisted greatly in further promoting the players from every TSL club.
”During the State League Home and Away season, AFL Tasmania’s Football partners, The Mercury, The Examiner and The Advocate, award 3, 2 and 1 votes to the best players for each match.
The RACT Insurance Player of the Year receives $2500 cash and a $2500 travel package.
